Hello, welcome to my blog! This is new to me but I'm excited to participate in this activity with everyone.
My experience with the Journey On exercise was amazing, normally I can't relax like that and block out all outside distractions or noises unless it's completely quiet and normally this means my husband is either asleep or not home. However, even with my son playing his Madden on Xbox I was able to fully incorporate the exercise and literally hear only the speaker's voice in my headphone. Every thing he directed me to do I was able to do and it amazed me that I really could visualize the blood flow going to my shoulders and down into my arms and hands. I literally felt the warmth and heaviness he described and could see the blood flow as if I had x-ray vision into my own body! When I tried to lift my arms off my lap, I found I could barely even move my fingers, but once he instructed me to visualize the blood flow returning to my abdominal area and GI track, I then could even move my fingers freely, they still felt warm but not heavy. Then my arms felt free to move also and not heavy but I was able to lift them off my lap easily. I then was able to stretch and become completely aware of my surroundings, the noises, the daylight and the time of day. It was neat but I'm still not sure how or when I would be able to implement this exercise except before taking a test. That would be my most high anxiety time so I think before I take the Unit 2 quiz I'm going to try this technique out and maybe it will help me slow down and really process the information. I find I tend to rush through tests out of fear of forgetting what I have learned or just feeling so anxious to get it done.
Hi Jada,
ReplyDeleteThe power of the mind is so amazing and I think this exercise is a clear demonstration of the strength that we possess over our bodies. I would be interested in knowing how you feel while taking your test if you are able to conduct this exercise before taking it. Sometimes I find it difficult to alter my routine even if it only means a 10-15 minute variation, but when you discover the positive effects that come from those changes I think it makes it easier to incorporate.
Yeah and I totally forgot to even do this before taking the Unit 2 quiz lol maybe I would have faired better if I had!
DeleteHi Jada,
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like this exercise worked really well for you, and is something you may be able to use in the future. Unfortunately for me, it just made me too relaxed to where I wanted to go to sleep, which is probably why I could not visualize the blood flow like you did. I guess my mind was way past that part!
I don't experience anxiety before tests/quizzes, so I don't feel the need to do any relaxation exercises beforehand. Tests and quizzes do however, make me feel annoyed, and I don't know why, so I just do them without much thought just to get them over with. I'm not sure if relaxation exercises would help out with that!

Feeling annoyed could be a symptom of anxiety, I know I just rush through them and tend not to do as well as I would like. I really need to find a solution to my issue with taking tests. I'm open to any suggestions.
DeleteHi Jada!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like this exercise accomplished what it was supposed to for you. It's not often that we, as mother's, are able to truly relax. I think the moment we become mothers, relaxation becomes a thing of the past.
As a massage therapist and prior massage therapy instructor, I would frequently do these exercises alone and with my classes. My students loved doing things like this at the beginning of class and it always started our days off in a very positive way. I often get test anxiety and was a really bad test taker in grade school. I am interested to know how you do on your test if you are able to try this exercise again!

Hey Jada!
DeleteI too was amazed at how I could not lift my arms and hands! lol I really could visualize the blood flow in my hands and back to my abdominal region too, really surprised! I actually want to try and use this narration every day, not just before a stressful situation. Let me know how your test goes after trying the exercise again first.

Hi Jada,
ReplyDeleteWow your workout seems intense! I too often have anxiety and I do deep breathing exercises to calm myself down. Here is a tip for remembering information for a test, write things down. Thank goodness professor Maule provides us with a study guide because I think it really helps. Have faith in yourself and you will be fine. Good luck to you!
Hello Jada!
ReplyDeleteI think that is amazing that you rated your psychological well being at a 9, that is great and I wish that I had that self control over things, I myself, tend to sweat the small things and sometimes these small things ruin my day, and I hate that, that happens. I definitely think you have a great plan to fix the things that lacking and continue on this track that you are on because it seems to be working very well for you!
